On November 30, 2015, around 60 international guests bade farewell to the longstanding Foreign Coordinator of GSI, Dipl. Ing. Christian Ahrens, on his retirement. With their presence, gifts, greetings and welcoming addresses, the guests paid their respects to Mr. Ahrens for his work for SLV Duisburg and GSI in over 30 years. In addition to his obligations for SLV Duisburg and GSI which resulted in an abundance of successful initiatives (e.g. the development of the distance courses and the decades of cooperation with WTI Harbin in China), Mr. Ahrens was involved in the German Welding Society (DVS) and the International Institute of Welding (IIW). In these tasks and in a wide variety of international cooperation, Mr. Ahrens considerably refined the training and further education in welding technology. Mr. Ahrens will maintain his connections with GSI and IIW through his internationally active consultancy office CA IWC.
