Within the framework of FABTECH 2014 in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), a presentation, organised by the American Welding Society (AWS) and GSI‑SLV, on the subject of the future IWE / IWT training in the USA took place on November 11, 2014.
The speakers were Jeff Hufsey for AWS and Roger van den Brekel for GSI‑SLV.
During this presentation, it was illustrated to the listeners what the participants can expect and what prerequisites they must possess. Furthemore, the structure and sequence of this training were explained on the basis of the IIW guideline IAB‑252r1‑11.
Although the number of visitors was not particularly high, it was possible to communicate a few very promising ideas.
The first IWE / IWT course in the USA will probably take place in 2015 - under the supervision of GSI‑SLV. The challenge for AWS and GSI‑SLV is to find an optimum venue and optimum conditions for the course contents without the participants having to travel too far.
